I'm in an incredibly thoughtful mood. I've been pondering whole day (that and making ridiculous jokes with the pinafore) about three million things. I feel the need to share them with you, because.
Just because.
So, society in my grade.
Let me start by saying that in total, I have like five proper friends; And we're all so bad at socialising that if we didn't have each other we'd sit alone in our classrooms reading, drawing or writing fanfiction.
You should know that it's incredibly hard to describe how things in my school work to someone who doesn't live in India itself, and hasn't experienced this sort of thing. We've been brought up so conservatively, it's just rubbed off on all of us whether we like it or not. So there are some of us who don't mind saying things like 'anal sex' and 'masturbation' out loud, some who don't mind saying 'menstruation' out loud, and those of us who'd rather not talk about that sort of thing. My friends fit into the first category. We marvel at this second category who cannot talk about things like wanking off, and occasionally enjoy watching them squirm when we talk about it. We leave the poor sods in the third category alone (because we're nice like that).
A majority of people in my batch belong to either the second or third category, which is awfully off-putting. There's hardly a soul who doesn't the word 'gay' as an insult, even though technically they've got nothing against the LGBT community.
Now, here's the thing - each category views the other in their own way. To us, they're being ridiculous and to them, we're being ridiculous; At the same time, we admire them for their attributes; and they, for ours. We are basically the same. So who is better? Is anyone better?
The pinafore's reasoning is that we are both better.
I could accept that, because she's right, but I don't want to - because if we're both better, than how are we different? We are the same, no matter what we do. We can be better at some things, and they can be better at some other things, but we will always be the same.
Somehow, this doesn't satisfy me. I'm always striving for equality - always. I bring people down to the same level, because that's how it is. We are all the same, because we are all homo sapiens - so why am I not happy with the pinafore's ruling? The answer is frustrating.
I want to be on top - the smartest. I want to hang with the smartest people, the people who know so much, and want to know more. I cannot say that now, because they know things about things I might not know about, and I cannot say I am smarter because I know things that I want to know about, because interests cannot be compared.
Damn; But yay equality!
